Operating Engineers Training Program offers the following classes to IUOE Local 513 members at various times throughout the year at the Operating Engineers Training Center at Silex, Missouri:
Title: O.S.H.A. 10 Hour Construction Outreach Course
Description: 2 day class in construction occupational safety and health standards and policy given in accordance with O.S.H.A. Outreach Training Program Guidelines. Course completion card issued by O.S.H.A. Required of all apprentices.
Title: 30 Hour O.S.H.A. Class
Description: 4 day class needed for jobsite Supervisor qualification.
Title: Forklift Certification Class
Description: One day course of instruction in safe and proper operation of powered industrial trucks in accordance with O.S.H.A. Regulation 29 CFR 1910.178. Must pass a written and hands-on test to obtain certification (valid for 3 years). Required for all apprentices.
Title: Forklift Re-Certification Class
Description: Refresher training and evaluation for re-certification in operation of powered industrial trucks in accordance with O.S.H.A. Regulation 29 CFR 1910.178. Must pass a hands-on test for re-certification (valid for 3 years).
Title: 40 Hour Hazardous Waste/Materials (Hazmat) Certification Class
Description: Forty hour course presenting safe and proper handling and disposal of Hazardous Waste/Materials in accordance with O.S.H.A. Regulation 29 CFR 1910.120. A written test must be passed to obtain certification (valid for one year). Certified Emergency First Aid/CPR instruction is included in this course. Required for all apprentices.
Title: 8 Hour Hazmat Refresher Class
Description: Required annually to maintain Hazmat Certification. Eight hour class meets requirements of O.S.H.A. Regulation 29 CFR 1910.120. Valid for one year. Required for all apprentices.
Title: M.S.H.A. 24 Hour Surface Mining Training
Description: 3 day partial training course in surface mining occupational safety and health standards and policy given in accordance with M.S.H.A. training guidelines. Required for workers on certain jobsites.
Title: 8 Hour M.S.H.A. Refresher
Description: 8 hour refresher course needed to keep 24 hr. M.S.H.A. certification valid.
Title: Radiological Worker II (RADII) Certification Class
Description: One day Department of Energy standardized core training course in accordance with requirements set forth in 10 CFR 835, presenting safe and proper handling and disposal of radiation contaminated (radioacitve) materials. A written test must be passed to obtain RAD II Certification (valid 2 years). Required for all apprentices.
Title: 40 Hr. Introduction to Crane Class
Description: 5 day class designed for those with little or no experience on cranes; approximately 50/50 classroom and hands-on practice on cranes. Topics covered in classroom include basic craning principles, proper set up and maintenance of the equipment, hand signals, rigging, load charts and estimating load weights. Hands-on time allows student to become familiar with the machine and to learn and practice basic craning skills (Not available to first term apprentices).
Title: Crane Certification (CCO) Written Test Prep Classes
Description: Recommended for all candidates planning to take the CCO Written Test, which is the initial step toward CCO certification as a crane operator. Course consists of 16 hours of instruction covering subject matter in all categories of the written exam developed by the National Commission for Certification of Crane Operators. Written test consists of an exam on general knowledge of craning (core), and exams for six separate crane specialties-large and small hydraulic cranes, lattice-boom crawler and lattice-boom truck cranes, tower cranes and overhead cranes. Test candidates must meet medical requirements, comply with CCO's substance abuse policy, and submit application and test fees for the written test. Must pass written test and practical exam for CCO certification. Not available to first term apprentices.
Title: Practical Exam for CCO Crane Certification
Description: Hands-on test of essential skills in crane operation developed by the NCCCO for six crane specialties, and given by Operating Engineers Training Program instructors who have been accredited by CCO as CCO Practical Examiners. Passing scores on the core and at least one specialty of the CCO written text are prerequisite to taking the CCO Practical Exam. Candidates must submit test fees with application. All CCO tests are scored and certifications issued (or denied) by the administrating agency for the CCO Certification Program. CCO certification is valid for 5 years. Not available to first term apprentices.
Title: CCO Signalperson Certification
Description: Issued to candidates who pass both the written and practical exams designed for signalpersons who are trained and who will use hand and voice signals in operation of all types of cranes. The signalperson practical exam requires the candidate to demonstrate proficiency in giving both hand and voice commands. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, comply with CCO's Substance Abuse Policy and the NCCCO Code of Ethics, and submit the required application and test fees. All CCO Signalperson exams are scored by and certification issued (or denied) by the administrating agency for the CCO Certification Program. Prep class(es) consisting of 8 or more hours are offered by Local 513 Training Program to candidates for the Signalperson exams. Certification is valid for 5 years.
Title: CCO Basic Rigger Certification
Description: Issued to candidates who pass both the written and practical exams designed for riggers who are trained in the essential skills needed to perform safe rigging duties. The Rigger practical exam requires the candidate to demonstrate proficiency in correctly spotting defective equipment and ability to secure loads correctly. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, comply with CCO's Substance Abuse Policy and the NCCCO Code of Ethics, and submit the required application and test fees. All CCO Rigger written and practical exams are scored by and certification issued (or denied) by the administrating agency for the CCO Certification Program. Prep class(es) consisting of 8 or more hours are offered by Local 513 Training Program to candidates for the Rigger exams. Certification is valid for 5 years.
Title: Qualified Rigger
Description: Issued to candidates who pass both the written and practical exams designed for riggers who are trained in the essential skills needed to perform safe rigging duties. The Rigger practical exam requires the candidate to demonstrate proficiency in correctly spotting defective equipment and ability to secure loads correctly.
Title: Qualifed Signal person
Description: Issued to candidates who pass both the written and practical exams designed for signalpersons who are trained and who will use hand and voice signals in operation of all types of cranes. Title: JLG & Scissor Lift Training
Description: 4 hour class on the orientation and safe operation of various booms and scissor lifts and their controls.
Title: 8 Hr Grade Stake Class
Description: One day course of instruction in grade stake abbreviations and identification, grade checking, proper use of laser and conventional transits.
Title: 8 Hr Blueprint (Dirt Plan) Class
Description: One day course of instruction in contour line, profile and cross-section prints, and slope drafting; must be able to read grade stakes to attend.
Title: First Aid/CPR Class
Description: Basic First Aide and CPR Class (one day)
Title: Preparation for Commercial Driver's License (CDL) test
Description: One day session of instruction and practice for walk-around and driving portion of the CDL test (Class A or Class B License with Air Brakes). Additional practice time may be scheduled as needed. CDL Permit required prior to attending.
Title: Skills Improvement Training (Voluntary Training)
Description: Hands-on training offered to Local 513 members desiring to update or acquire new skills with instruction and practice in safe and proper operation of equipment of member's choice, on a first come, first served basis. Most sessions offered on Saturdays; may be scheduled on weekdays by appointment.
